Chasing the darkness in search of something familiar
Regrets fade with time but the guilt tends to linger
So we drink till we black out to avoid confrontation
With the person we've become through inherent isolation

The lusters long since worn out and all pleasure truly faded
Still we feel coerced to swim the stream that leaves us jaded
Creating the very turmoil that we drink to escape
This catch 22 continually loops the same tape

All logic tells us recommence and the steps are clearly laid
But deep beneath the surface grows a nagging, incessant plague
That eradicates our rationale and binds us to our vice
Desperate to escape this cycle but can our mind handle the price?
